My site. its mine okay? no messing around with it. Ben.

There are two ways to live a life - one as though nothing is a miracle, the other as though everything is a miracle (know who said it?). Is there anything in between, I often wonder. Regardless, here are pearls of my miracles....YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!

Washington DC

Two days ago, we went to Washington DC, the capital of the USA.

My uncle came all the way here to see us from China. We took a road trip all the way to DC. Dad and Uncle sat in the front, Mom and Raymond sat in the middle, and I sat in the back. The trip took us about 5 long hours until we finally headed directly to Arlington National Cemetery.

We took a ride on the tour mobile all the way through the cemetery and saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Changing of the Guard takes place every half an hour. An officer of the Third US Infantry (This infantry regiment was created in the Civil War to protect Washington DC and Arlington) walks to the carpet, and the ceremony begins. Afterwards, the new guard there paces to the other end of the carpet and pauses 21 seconds before heading back. We saw 4 veterans walked down some stairs to replace the wreath on a stand. They saluted each other and a bugler played taps.

The grounds of Arlington were the property of Robert E Lee, a General in the Civil War. The cemetery is the burial grounds for more than 300,000 soldiers. Each day there are about 25 burials. We saw the graves of the Kennedy family and President William Taft.

When we came from Arlington National Cemetery, Dad dropped us off at the Vietnam War Memorial, which was close nearby. The memorial is shaped like a V to stand for Vietnam and Victory. Names of all of the soldiers are on the walls. We then went to the Lincoln Memorial. I walked all of the steps. The memorial faces the reflecting pool.

Dad picked us up and we went to Renaissance Hotel. I began to watch TV for a while. Mom and uncle were out to buy take out. Dad fell asleep. Suddenly the fire alarm went off. Dad, Raymond and I had to leave the building and went to where Mom and Uncle were having dinner. We eagerly joined them.

Then we went back to the hotel. Raymond and Mom were swimming, Uncle was in the room, and Dad and I were in the lobby sitting around. Then we all met back in the room to go to sleep.

Next day, I was hustled awake and was brought in a flash to the US Capitol. We got up really early and we had to wait one hour to get a tour. When we got in, we took a tour of the Rotunda. Then we went to the green house and saw many exotic plants.

After that, we went to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. We browsed a bit, then we went to the cafeteria in the Smithsonian Visitor Center. We had a bite to eat, then we went to the Washington Monument. It is 555 feet high!(no, we took the elevator) The monument was dedicated in 1885. This monument is made out of nothing but stone. The Washington Monument is dedicated to George Washington. There was a free one and a half hour walking tour, but we did not take it.

It was so hot that I felt that I would be in a Barbecue oven. Our whole water supply was nearly out. We had to go to the car which was parked near the Mall in order to cool down. It was over 100 degrees and I was burning like a sausage!

We headed to the Museum of Natural History. I saw the sea life exhibit and the famous 42.5 carat Hope Diamond. The bluish-red diamond is in the shape of a heart. We also saw large chunks of fluorite. Fluorite is an item used to make toothpaste and vitamin tablets.

We then back to National Air and Space Museum to finish of the rest of the exhibits we missed. I also got to participate in a flight demonstration all about lift, weight, drag, and thrust. I pulled apart to halves of a sphere very easily. When all of the air was sucked out with a valve, the task was impossible.

It was about 5:00pm, we went to the car and drove to Baltimore, where we had dinner at Phillip Seafood Restaurant. The night at the Baltimore Inner Harbor was fantastic. The sky was dark and there were not many streetlights around. This was made up by lights on the boats and buildings. There were restaurants everywhere. There were boats everywhere. We played with a reactrix while waiting for Dad to make up his mind of where to eat. I ate a lot of crab legs and popcorn shrimp. Afterwards we walked along the harbor.

We arrived home at 1:00am the next day.

Jose and a puppy

After a day of torment, Jose limped down the street as a bunch of 5th graders laughed from a window on a bus. Jose's family could not afford to use the bus. The fifth graders pelted him with stones, and he had to hide behind bushes thrice to avoid the falling rocks and pebbles. When the bus disappeared from sight, Jose heard a whining sound. He stepped over some flowers, he found himself at the edge of a large ditch. At the bottom was a small whining puppy. He had to rescue it! He had an idea.

Jose found a large rock and dug it until it held steady into the ground. Then he tied his ripped up sweater to the rock. Then, like a mountain climber, he held his makeshift rope and descended down into the ditch. The puppy trotted toward him and he grabbed it. Holding the puppy under his arm, Jose climbed to the top of the ditch. Jose set the dog on the sidewalk and petted it. Jose decided to bring the nice puppy home. The young dog needed no leash, and it followed Jose all the way home.

When his mother saw the puppy, she screamed. But Jose was calm and said that everything was all right. He explained what had happened and he was pleased with the result. Jose could have the dog.

The dog was safe, and everyone was happy.
